A rough, honest accounting, from watching our own phones over a fortnight of walking.
Checking Gronze for the next stage: about 2 MB. Ten WhatsApp voice notes to your mother: about 5 MB. A day of maps with the route already downloaded: near zero. A photo sent to the family group: 3 MB, or 30 MB if your phone is set to send originals, which it probably is.
Where it actually goes
Two things eat data on the Camino, and neither is navigation. The first is video calls — twenty minutes home in the evening is roughly 120 MB, every evening. The second is your phone quietly backing up four hundred photos of a wheat field to the cloud over 4G.
Turn photo backup to wifi-only before you leave and 1 GB per week is genuinely comfortable. Leave it on and 10 GB will not save you.
This is why our plan list shows days and data side by side rather than shouting about "unlimited". On a 33-day Francés, thirty days of a modest allowance beats five days of a huge one.
Walking one of these routes?
Pick it on the map and we'll show only the plans that cover it end to end.
