Albergue wifi is real. It exists. It is also shared by everyone who walked in before you, all of whom are currently video-calling a different country.
The pattern is reliable enough to plan around: it works beautifully at four in the afternoon when you are the third person through the door, and it collapses completely at nine in the evening. If you need to do something that matters — book ahead, upload photos, actually talk to someone — do it early.
What we tell friends
Treat albergue wifi as a bonus, not as your plan. It is the reason to buy a small eSIM rather than no eSIM, and also the reason not to buy an enormous one. Somewhere between "I have nothing" and "I have unlimited" there is a plan that costs about the same as two cafés con leche a week.
