Things worth knowing
Straight out of a city of six million
It is the only route that begins in a metropolis, which makes it the practical choice for anyone flying into Madrid with time but no onward transport budget.
One serious mountain crossing
The Guadarrama is crossed at over 1,700 m at the Puerto de la Fuenfría, on a stretch of preserved Roman road. It holds snow well into spring.
Staying connected on the Camino de Madrid
It stays inside Spain the whole way. Walked at an ordinary pace it takes about 13 days, so a plan needs to be valid for at least that long — the days start counting when the eSIM first connects on the trail, not when you buy it.
Coverage on the trail itself is good in towns and along the main valleys and thin in between — that is true of every network, and it is why the useful habit is downloading tomorrow's stage tonight rather than buying a bigger bundle.
